 | Impossible Creatures | Christopher is visiting his grandfather, who it turns out is the guardian of a portal to another world. Christopher is forbidden from approaching the portal but when he investigates nonetheless, he is surprised by the dramatic appearance of a young girl, Mal, and her griffin. Mal is busy escaping from a murderous pursuit, and begs Christopher to help her escape and then also to help her investigate why the magic of her world seems to be in decline. They return to her world and a series of adventures ensues, during which they meet a range of friends, enemies, and mythical beasts. Centaurs and sphinxes, dragons and manticores are just some of the Impossible Creatures they encounter in their search for the immortal being who can save the world.

My daughter Molly thought the book was very good. She says it has lots of mystery and adventure. She thought it was quite sad at the end, but all in all she loved every minute of it and thinks that all ten year olds who like books with adventure and mystery would love, love, love it!
I loved it too! (John)
