The Book Thief
Liesel is a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany with her foster parents after her communist parents disappear. She struggles to learn to read but when she does the only way she can acquire a library is to steal books that come her way, starting with the grave-diggers handbook. They take in a Jewish refugee and hide him but eventually he is forced to move on and events all get a bit tragic as the war comes to an end. Story is narrated by Death.
Excellent, very moving and realistic. Read this on Anne-Marie's honeymoon in Senegal.
