The Bee Sting
The Barnes family appear happy and successful. Big house, prosperous business, two smart kids. But recession hits, the car showroom is in trouble and Dickie (the father) seems distracted by his efforts to build a future-proof bunker in the woods behind the house. Daughter Cass becomes a troubled teenager, mother Imelda has to sell her stuff, and son PJ wants to run away. And what of their troubled history? Did that bee sting on Imelda and Dickie's wedding day really change the whole course of their lives?
Great, really good story, told from all the different points of view of the four family members. I wish he hadn't done the stream of consciousness zero punctuation thing with Imelda though. Just made it hard to read. Fabulous ending too!
