Lonesome Dove
Captain Woodrow Call and his friend Gus, both ex-Texas Rangers, are making a living on their cattle farm in Lonesome Dove, when they decide to embark on a cattle-drive northwards. They go in search of a better life, adventure, self-knowledge and enlightenment. Kind of.
Great western epic, won the Pulitzer prize.

Dead Man's Walk
Gus and Call as very young men go on their first adventure, signing up to become Texas Rangers, but taken along on a crazy expedition to liberate Santa Cruz from the Mexicans.
Great story.

Comanche Moon
Texas Rangers Gus and Call are still relatively junior but their exploits are recognised when their leader's horse is stolen and they go in pursuit. Plus lots more adventures. Also lots from a Native American perspective - with Kicking Wolf, Buffalo Hump and Two Shoes all featuring significantly.
Jolly good, just Streets of Laredo to go now.

Streets of Laredo
Another story of the now aging Texas rangers (although many are now riding across the infinite plains of the heavens) but Captain Call goes on one last mission to capture a very unpleasant bandit. Does a Texas ranger ever get to retire?
Excellent, really good story.
