Mountains of the Mind
A kind of history of mountaineering, but not so much of the technical stuff, more about the social and cultural background, how attitudes to exploring the high places of the world have changed, and the psychology of mountain climbing. Plenty of descriptions of climbing expeditions too with all the usual drama and high mortality rates and the occasional brief reference to his own climbing experiences.
Very good. Lovely writing, interesting subject. That's two mountaineering books in a row - must get my categorisation sorted out. This also concludes the big review catch-up of 2019 - I am now up to date again - the next book I review will be the one I am still reading! Phew.
