A Study in Scarlet
The first Sherlock Holmes story, with a bloke murdered in a deserted house turning out to be a nasty Mormon, who was killed for revenge by a nice bloke, years after the nasty bloke killed the nice bloke's fiance's father, and then married the fiance against her will.
Very good, and I read the bit set in the US properly for the first time.

The Complete Sherlock Holmes (Volume 2)
A bunch of the short stories and 2 of the long ones (Hound of the Baskervilles and - can't remember). Holmes being logical and clever, Watson being perpetually surprised and worshipping.
Well, ok I guess but when you read a lot of them at once they get a bit boring and repetitive. Not quite finshed it yet either. Got this off Greg in Cambo and read it on the journey to NZ and from NZ back to England. Greg reckons it's a rare edition 'cos its got the Adventure of the Cardboard Box in it, but he might well have made that up.
