True History of the Kelly Gang
Written as a first person account by Ned Kelly, a kind of reluctant Australian bushranger whose family is persecuted by the authorities. I imagine this is supposed to be based on truth.
Pretty good, and it won the Booker prize for 2001, which is why I got Helen to bring out for me. Written without much punctuation, which made it a bit hard to get used to, and I wasn't sure whether they were speaking with an Australian or Irish accent.

Oscar and Lucinda
This is the amazing story of Oscar and Lucinda, who meet and fall in love in 19th century Australia. They are drawn together by their common love of gambling, but circumstances, and the social structure of the times, puts many obstacles in their path, leading to Oscar's journey through the dangerous Australian bush.
I thought this was really good and enjoyed every minute of it.
