Alias Grace
Grace is in prison for being co-murderer of Nancy and Mr Kinnear. But is she insane? Or just got amnesia? Or just acting? Dr Simon, a 19th Century shrink tries to find out in a series of interviews and we get the story of Grace's life up to the fateful day at Mr. Kinnear's house...
Very good, read this pretty much straight through in one day, although had plenty of time for reading due to dengue fever. Based on real life with invented stuff in the gaps

Oryx and Crake
Jimmy is one of possibly very few survivors of a human cataclysm set in the future. Humanity has been mucking about with gene modifications for years and has unleashed new species of animals and even a small group of modified humans. But a man-made virus has wreaked havoc, and all Jimmy can do is try to survive, and ponder what his future might hold. He reveals the backstory of his connection to the development of the nasty bugs.
Quite good, style a bit dry for me, but great story.
