The story of two families over three generations in London and other places. Archie, Clara and Irie, and Samad, Alsana, and their twin boys Magid and Millat.

Really good, lots of interweaving little strands all over the place, as everyone tries to work out what life is all about.

Two intellectual black families with different ideals and politics meet and clash and make friends. Matriarch of family 1 dies and controversially leaves valuable painting to matriarch of family 2.

OK, but characters seemed a little bit forced, not entirely natural. First book read while living at Groenewegje.
