David is a writer, a professor at Stanford. But without tenure he decides to give up his academic life and go to Turkey to build a boat and make a new life chartering it out to academic tours around the historic Mediterranean. This is the story of the building of the boat and his subsequent voyages, and rescues.

He seems a highly competent boat-person but he is very unlucky, repeatedly, and very driven. And too trusting of his awful Turkish boat-builder friend. Very entertaining.
