Books - Review

Nathan an Irishman in New York has a job as security guard at the Empire State Building, but no girlfriend, as Lisa has finally left him. However, his life is about to get even more complicated as the president is to visit the Empire State, as is George Burley, white supremiscist and hater of the president's liberal values.

Terrific - very funny and entertaining, with super characters and lots of action, in a crazy but strangely believable plot.

Bloke gets involved in dodgy horse racing intrigue in Ireland. Murder, torture and the Grand National.

Not great, all a bit contrived, and funny bits were very few and far between.

Dodgy journalist bloke goes off on hols with old-friend Davie to Florida where they get revenge on killer of journo's son, find stash of gold, get put in jail, escape. etc, etc.

Not bad, quite funny in places. Read on hols in Croatia.

A literary author struggles to get his worthy book published, but that changes when he persuades a glamourous woman he knows from jail to pretend to be the author.

OK, quite entertaining and funny in places.

Sean is a film-star, who gets involved with dodgy deals with ex IRA nasties. Our hero, Dan, some kind of writer jounalist gets inveigled into writing Sean's autobiography, but then discovers he has to kill Sean if he wants to see his wife and child again. Has a bit set in Amsterdam which was fun.

OK, I guess, easy read, bit silly though - it's as if he can't decide if he's writing a comedy or a thriller. Or a comedy-thriller. Or a thriller-comedy. Or something.
