Great game, really enjoyed it and everyone played well and hit some excellent shots. I particularly enjoyed getting a birdie at the 14th - the hole with the giant bunker for a fairway. JEJ and Geoff were lazy and got a buggy, but I walked all the way, which at least kept me warm as it was a bit chilly in the wind. At least it didn't rain. My most frustrating hole was the 16th, where I might have got a birdie, and should have got a par, but instead, I four-putted. Grrrr. JEJ owes me 16 from poker debts and curry fees. Debt cleared on 25-06-08.

The first big test of the year. John S excelled himself on the par 3s, and in particular the tough 5th hole over the water, where he put it to 2 yards. Generally John S played the best shots of the day -the longest (sunk) putt, the best chips - but it was Geoff and John fighting it out for overall strokeplay victory. I won the longest drive competition, driving the ball on a perfect line a mighty 330 yards on the 4th hole, admittedly aided somewhat by the anti-uphill slope post the first bounce - but however good this was, this was overshadowed by Geoff who pitched his second to within a yard, and putted for the birdie. The overall honours was shared as Geoff and I constantly handed the other one the advantage having previously held it. The tension was palpable on the 18th when I drove my first ball 10 yards when going into the hole one shot up - Geoff and I both played awesome bold shots that flirted with the water for the second and third (respectively), then typically both duffed our next, and finished with decent chips and single putts to leave us all square. What a fantastic game (and thanks to the donkey who hee hawed something chronic after I put two balls into the water at the 16th!).

There certainly was a donkey on the 16th tee. The one who put two balls into the water.
