A Quiet Belief in AngelsYoung Joseph Vaughan grows up in a small town in Georgia. He is a budding writer and is encouraged by his clever, sensitive and beautiful young teacher. However life is not straightforward as his dad dies when he is young, he catches his mum in bed with the neighbour, young girls get nastily murdered at a rate of about one a year, and WW2 breaks out. Then his mum goes mad, his teacher (now lover) gets killed, then his new girlfriend gets killed...

Bit rubbish really - plot was very dull, given the high murder rate, and the dialogue highly unbelievable. Disappointing for a Richard and Judy award-winner.
