The Grapes of Wrath
The Joad family are kicked off their (rented) Oklahoma farm, and follow Route 66 west to the California fruit fields in search of work and a new life. Struggling to survive and often weak with hunger they become homeless travellers, but maintain their own strong moral code, even in the face of ruin.
Brilliant. Very moving story, beautifully told. Every member of the family has his or her problems, weaknesses or trials, but they meet every challenge with dignity, tolerance, and hard work. This copy was a gift from BN.
