Northern Lights
Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon head north with the gyptians to try and find the missing kids who are mysteriously disappearing, where she meets witches and armoured bears.
Not bad - started a bit slowly, but I got quite into it after a while.

The Subtle Knife
Will is on the run after accidentally killing a man, and finds himself stepping through a window into another world, where he finds people with daemons, spectres and angels, and a strange knife that allows him to cut holes into new worlds. And what on earth is Dust?
Jolly good - better than the first one I thought.

The Amber Spyglass
The third book in His Dark Materials trilogy. Lyra and Will have to take on the forces of evil (ie the organised church), and the nasty angel Metatron, with the help of their parents, living and dead, and the usual gang of witches and bears and strange creatures. And just what is that Dust?
Pretty good. Surprisingly anti-church I thought and pro-independent thought, knowledge and wisdom. Lots of good bits with battles and harpies, ghosts and spies. And love apparently is the key! So there you go.
