The Box of Delights
Kay Harker is on a train, returning from school for the Christmas holidays when he meets Cole Hawlings, an old punch and judy man with a mysterious secret. He warns Kay that the wolves are running, and entrusts Kay with the safekeeping of the magical box of delights. But a determined gang led by Abner Brown are after the box, and will stop at nothing to get their hands on it, scrobbling several of Kay's friends and family in their efforts. Can Kay thwart the gang, rescue the captives and restore the Christmas celebrations in Tatchester?
Very good. Great story, beautifully told (Masefield being a poet laureate). Excitement, danger and magic all combined wonderfully. Really enjoying reading it to Molly, just having to explain some of the old-fashioned language.
