The Ghost of Thomas Kempe
James and his family have moved to an old cottage - full of strange draughts, mysterious bumps and bangs and unusual incidents. It turns out that they have a poltergeist, and a particularly opinionated and grumpy one at that. James tries to resist being bossed around by him, but realises he has to try and get rid of him for his own safety and his neighbours. Fortunately he meets Bert, a builder with a sideline in exorcism.
Great story, fondly remembered from my youth of course, but I loved reading it to Molly, and she loved it too. Won the Carnegie medal in 1973.
